The Internet is a great tool to find a lot of very valuable information. It allows a hands on learning experience that the kids enjoy. As teachers we might need to research sites ahead of time to ensure they are going to sites that are true and do not have bad things on it.

The Internet is a great source to use both for the teacher and the students for research, communication, sharing information and ideas, and engaging in interactive activities.
Responsible and appropriate use can be ensured by close monitoring, planning ahead and finding appropriate websites for your students to use, and by partnering students together to “check” on each other and what they are doing.

1. There are different programs that the students can go onto to find information on nutrition and their health. An example would be using mypyramid.gov.
2. I can ensure proper use by having guided questions through the material, teacher monitoring, and assigned seating.

How can I use the Internet to support my teaching and students’ learning?
We now can travel all over the world access current information previously not available. I should help us excite the stuents and open their mind to new events.
How can I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet?
This technology is very tricky to use. The students can get distracted and roam online so posting what you want them to do and continually moving around the room as they work will help.

chatting, wikis). It is a great tool for enhancing student learning
and sharing ideas and information.
It is important that students are given the appropriate copyright
information that protects them under the Fair Use laws. They need
to have an understanding of what constitutes copyrighted material
and the teacher needs to monitor that the students are complying
with copyright rules and laws.

How can I use the Internet to support my teaching and students’ learning?
I have created an edublog that I will have my students respond to regarding reading strategies they use while reading books of their choice. I have created a wiki that students will add to and edit regarding reading strategies.
How can I ensure responsible and appropriate use of the Internet?
I will create at first a general rubric for students to follow when they respond to the blogs and wikis. After we have used the general rubric and students become familar with the blogs and wikis, the students and myself will create a more specific rubric. On the blog, I will have a record of who has responded to my questions and if they were appropriate or not. I will be able to determine if those responses will be published.

A great tool for connecting instantly and globally, it frees up an enormous amount of time . Productivity expands. We would have been out of the caves faster if we’d had the internet thousands of years earlier, but then we wouldn’t have all that cool cave art to look at in France. Cave tools,
like clubs, can be used to ensure student compliance…or is that passe? I require citations and disallow Wikipedia-type (junk) citations…or, if they use Wikipedia they must have 3 cites to verify.

The internet is an endless source of information. I can use the internet to search new discoveries in science, I can stay up-to-date on current studies. Students can use the internet to learn more about a topic they enjoy, they can explore a variety of scientific ideas.
It is important that I consistantly monitor what my students are researching. It would be beneficial for me to give a list of appropriate websites that I have previewed before I let my students explore websites.

The internet is a wonderful tool for getting kids interested in a subject area, particularly foreign language. When I had a class period of blogging, students found blogging very interesting because they had the opportunity to research certain sites and share them with the class. They also found it good to make a comment, and share their work. Students do need to be monitored while they work on the computer, but when they have a purpose and goal the majority of the students stay on task.
